Vandal Track and Field Competes in Three Meets

The Vandal men's and women's indoor track and field teams participated in three meets this weekend as they gear up for the Big Sky Conference Championship meet at the end of the month.

"It was an exciting weekend," director of track & field/cross country Tim Cawley said. "We had a lot of success across every event area."

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Vandals competed at the Lilac Grand Prix held at The Podium. The meet brought the top middle-distance teams from around North America to compete.

The Vandal women swept the mile run with Katja Pattis setting the pace, finishing in 4:56. Nell Baker was less than a second behind (4:56.88) and Kelsey Swenson took third with a time of 4:57.95.

Tim Stevens won the men's mile with a time of 4:09.83.

Lorenz Herrmann took fourth in the men's 400-meter race with a time of 1:49.35.

Also in Spokane, The Vandals competed at the Whitworth Invite held at The Podium.

Deyondre Davis won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.23 seconds. Two Vandals broke seven seconds in the 60-meter dash. Jemini Archer finished third in 6.96 seconds and Khalil Forehand took fifth in 6.97 seconds.

In the 400 meters, Franziska Stohr took second in the women's race with a time of 56.76 seconds and Olivia Martin placed third (57.37). Alex Ayers took second in the men's race with a time of 48.80 seconds.

The 800-meters saw Leah Holmgren take second place (2:13.16) in the women's race, Katja Pattis placed fourth with a time of 2:13.77 seconds. Zac Bright ran a 1;51.42 to place second in the men's race. Tim Stevens took fourth with a time of 1:52.57.

In the 3000-meters Kelsey Swenson took second in the women's race with a sub-ten-minute time of 9:46.50. Gabriel Dinnel placed fourth in the men's race with a time of 8:27.52.

Jolene Whiteley placed second in the 5000 meters with a time of 17:47.99 seconds.

Julia Hayes placed third in the high jump with a height of 1.64 meters.

Lachlan Smith set a personal best winning the long jump with a jump of 7.09 meters.

Noah Culbertson won the shot put with a throw of 16.11 meters.

Olivia Martin, Aaryanna Kurucz, Prabhasha Wickramaraachchi, and Franziska Stohr took second in the women's 4x400 meter relay.
 
Albuquerque, N.M. – The Vandals fared well at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational.

Camryn Crouch placed fourth in her section of the women's 400-meter race with a time of 24. 79 seconds.

Jurrian Hering placed second in his section of the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 6.77 seconds.

Spencer Barrera took third in his section of the men's 400 meters with a time of 47.84 seconds.

Hannah Ringel placed fourth in the women's shot put with a throw of 15.55 meters.

Grady Leonard took second place in the weight throw with a throw of 21.25 meters and fifth in the shot put with a mark of 18.11 meters.

Joseph Ruddell took third place in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.12 meters.

Zachary Nunis took third in the long jump with a jump of 7.51 meters. He also took fifth place in the triple jumps with a jump of 15.37 meters.

"Both men's and women's teams are in a good place going into conference," Cawley said. "The coaches have done a great job of getting the student-athletes ready at the right time."

The Big Sky Conference championship meet will be held February 24-26 at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse in Bozeman, Mont.
