Women's Basketball Notebook - vs. Southern Utah

MOSCOW, Idaho --The Vandals are back in action after 11 days off dealing with COVID protocols both from their opponents and their own issues. The Vandals will have to enjoy the rest as they will play 12 games in 29 days to close out the season. This week they welcome Big Sky leader Southern Utah to ICCU Arena as they begin the mad dash to end of the regular season. After hosting SUU on Thursday, February 3, the Vandals will host Montana on Monday February, 7. to start a three week stretch of three games a week. The games will be streamed live on ESPN+. THE VANDALS
The Vandals are 4-13 and 3-5 on the season. They are currently sitting in seventh place in the Big Sky as they battle down the homestretch of the 2021-22 season. Eight of the 12 remaining games are at home in ICCU Arena as the Vandal fight to secure a top-five finished to secure a first-round bye in the upcoming conference tournament. Preseason player of the year Beyonce Bea seems to be peaking at the right time. Over her last four games, Beyonce Bea is averaging 21 points and 10 rebounds a game while shooting 52.3 percent with three double-doubles. She leads the team averaging 12.2 points and 7.9 rebounds a game while shooting 39.7 percent from the field. Louise Forsyth is providing scoring depth off the bench scoring over 15 points in three of her last four games. Overall she is averaging 11.9 points and 4.6 rebounds and is shooting at a 36.1 percent clip. Sydney Gandy is averaging 10 points a game. Both Gandy and Allison Kirby are averaging over 3.2 assists a game.  Kirby is averaging just under two steals a game. Tiana Johnson is shooting 40.7 percent from distance and leads the team in three-point field goals made. 

SOUTHERN UTAH
The Thunderbirds currently sit atop the Big Sky Conference with an 8-1 record and are receiving votes in the women's mid-major coaches poll. They hold a percentage point advantage over Idaho State (9-2) and Montana State (7-2) as the three schools battle for the conference lead. Dari Dotson was named the Big Sky's player of the week after averaging 18 points and 12. 5 rebounds in SUU's two wins over the weekend. The Thunderbirds average 74 points a game and are shooting 43 percent from the field. They have four players averaging 10 points a contest led by Dotson's 11.2. Lizzy Williamson is averaging 10.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks a game. Cherita Daugherty, who also has been named Big Sky player of the Week earlier this season, is averaging 10.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists a game.
