BOISE, Idaho – Sydney Gandy scored 22 points as the six seeded Idaho Vandals (14-17, 11-9) dominated from start to finish to defeat the third seed Southern Utah Thunderbirds (18-12, 14-6) 77-64 Tuesday night in the Big Sky Conference Tournament quarterfinals.
Four Vandals scored in double figures to lead Idaho to a birth in the Big Sky semifinals with an impressive win over Southern Utah.
Gandy scored 15 points in the first quarter to spark the Vandal offense. She finished the game 7 of 10 from the field including 5-7 from 3-point range.
The Vandals held a 33-32 advantage after a tight first half. The Vandals exploded out of the locker room opening the third quarter on a 10-0 run in just over three minutes of play.
The offensive burst was all the Vandals would need as they maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the second half.
The Vandals shot 42.4 percent from the field and held SUU to 36 percent including just 1 of 6 from behind the arc.
Beyonce Bea scored 16 points and pulled down six rebounds.
Allison Kirby scored 12 points, seven rebounds, and had four dimes.
Louise Forsyth scored 10 points and
Ashlyn Wallace added nine points.
The Vandals will face Montana State in the conference semifinals tomorrow, March 9. Tip-off from Idaho Central Arena in Boise, Idaho is set for 7 p.m. pacific.
