Mapson Promoted to Associate Head Coach

MOSCOW, Idaho – Vandal Soccer head coach Jeremy Clevenger announced the promotion of Sean Mapson to Associate Head Coach.

Mapson joined the program in 2018 and has since helped establish Vandal goalkeepers as a strength of the Vandal team. The 2018 team conceded the fewest goals in program history. Goalkeeper Makayla Presgrave was named the Big Sky Conference Co-Goalkeeper of the Year.

In 2021, Idaho goalkeepers notched six shutouts, including two in Big Sky play. Avrie Fox tallied 97 saves and a .815 save percentage. Fox earned Honorable Mention All-Conference

As a team, the Vandals have won 29 games including 10 games in 2021, the most under Clevenger.

"I want to congratulate Sean on his promotion," Clevenger said. "I truly feel this is something he has earned. Sean has been with me since I took over this program. Each year he has become more influential to our success. I want to thank him for his dedication, hard work, and loyalty. I look forward to seeing what we can build next."

Mapson came to Idaho from Mississippi Valley State where he was the head coach. He led MVSU to back-to-back SWAC Tournament appearances and placed three athletes on All-SWAC teams.  He spent four years as an assistant at Southern Mississippi from 2011-15 and as an assistant at his alma mater William Carey as an assistant coach for the men's and women's programs.

He earned his bachelor's degree from William Carey where he was an all-conference goalkeeper and earned his master's degree from Southern Miss in 2014.

The Vandals are in the midst of a spring schedule that wraps up on April 30.
