MOSCOW, Idaho – Kylie Hummel scored in the 45th minute and Kira Witte nabbed a pair of saves to earn her eighth consecutive shutout as the Vandals topped Idaho State 1-0 Sunday afternoon in the Kibbie Dome in the first matchup of the ICCU Battle of the Domes series.
The two teams battled in a physical showdown in the first half with both teams racking up seven fouls, but no goals in the first 44 minutes of the game.
That changed when Maddy Lasher found Hummel wide open 30-yards out from the goal. She sent a one-touch rocket to the goal and off the Bengal goalkeeper's hands for the goal.
The Vandals held ISU to two shots in the second half, but one was another outstanding save by Witte who put on a highlight tape Thursday in Ogden.
Idaho outshot the Bengals 11-4, including a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Vandals also doubled up ISU's corner kicks 4-2.
