Vandal Women Fall Short at Eastern Washington

CHENEY, Wash. – Sydney Gandy tallied a career-high six three-pointers and seven rebounds in today's 74-59 loss at Eastern Washington. Beyonce Bea tallied her 10th game this season with 20 or more points and sits at eighth all-time at Idaho with 1,603 career points.  

The Vandals came out hot in the first half led by the efforts of Bea and Gandy. Bea notched six points and three rebounds while Gandy, Asha Phillips, and Tiana Johnson tallied two rebounds apiece. Idaho shot 35.3% (6-17) from the field and ended the quarter with a 15-14 lead.

Gandy showed out in the second quarter shooting 3-3 from the three-point range, 3-3 from the line, and 3-4 from the field. Bea continued to be a key factor on the offense with 11 points in the half and two more rebounds during the quarter. Idaho closed the half shooting 41.4% (12-29) from the field, 46.2% (6-13) from the three-point range, and 100% (7-7) at the line. The Vandals entered the locker room with a 37-35 lead.

Idaho lost steam as they entered the second half, with only 11 points in the third quarter compared to Eastern Washington's 20. The Eagles had momentum, shooting 52.9% (9-17) from the field and 66.7% (2-3) from the three-point range. Gandy worked hard on the defense, grabbing four rebounds along with two from Bea.

Idaho was held to 11 points once again in the final quarter as the Eagles continued to see offensive success. The Vandals were unable to overcome EWU leading to the defeat. Eastern Washington had the overall advantage today, shooting 41.7% from the field and 43.8% from beyond the three-point line. The Vandals continued to stay consistent in free throws, going 100% (7-7) on the day.

The Vandals are back in action on Monday, January 16 at 6 p.m. at Montana State.
