MOSCOW, ID -- The Idaho men's basketball team dropped a back-and-forth battle to Idaho State, 95-91 in overtime at home on Saturday afternoon.
Guard
Divant'e Moffitt scored Idaho's final four points in the second half, including a game-tying floater with four seconds remaining to force an extra period. Yet rebounding and free throw shooting by Idaho State prevented the Vandals from securing a win in overtime.
Junior
Isaac Jones recorded his ninth game with at least 20 points and eighth double-double of the season, posting 27 points and a season-high 14 rebounds. He shot 7-of-14 from the field and a perfect 13-for-13 clip from the foul line.
Moffitt had 23 points and five assists while
Trey Smith came off the bench and scored in double figures for the third straight game with 13 points to round out the Vandals' double-digit scoring.
Neither team led by more than two possessions through the first 10 minutes of the opening half before Idaho State would find some breathing room with a 4-0 run to make it 25-18 with 9:18 remaining. It was not too long before the Vandals answered with an 8-0 run that would retake the lead (33-30) and give Idaho the advantage for the remainder of the half, 37-36.
Idaho shot 52 percent (13-of-25) from the field in the first and T. Smith did the majority of his scoring in the opening 20 minutes with 10 points to lead the Vandals.
A 12-4 run by the Bengals started the second period, but Idaho hung around and clawed its way back to eventually retake its lead, 60-59 at the 9:33 mark after Jones' knocked down a pair from the foul line. It was again Idaho State getting the lead and holding on to it down the stretch.
Idaho knocked down shots from the line in the final minute of action, going 6-of-6 and receiving help from 2,397 fans in attendance to force a miss by Idaho State at the charity stripe with 10 seconds to go, setting up Moffitt with a floating runner to force overtime.
Idaho State outscored the Vandals 14-10 in the extra period to earn the 95-91 win.
The Bengals shot 56 percent (36-of-64) from the field and 45 percent (9-of-20) from three. Idaho State outrebounded Idaho 33-24 on the glass.
It was a back-and-forth game that included 14 ties and 12 lead changes.
