SPOKANE, Wash. – SPOKANE, Wash. – The Vandals had another successful weekend at the Podium as
Lorenz Herrmann broke the 31-year-old school record in the indoor 800-meter run by half a second at the Lilac Grand Prix with a time of 1:48.07. The rest of the team followed up with a successful day of competition at the Inland Northwest Invitational.
Reflecting on the weekend, Coach Tim Cawley beamed, "I thought we had a solid weekend. I thought they competed great, the ones that were out there. It's awesome to see Lorenz go two weeks in a row, breaking school records."
Herrmann and
Kelsey Swenson had the opportunity to compete amongst the pros at the Lilac Grand Prix on Friday night. Swenson started the night with a personal best time of 9:31.31 in the 3000m. She beat her previous best by nearly 15 seconds. Herrmann ended the night with his second school record in the past two weekends finishing in fourth, less than two seconds behind the leader. His time ranked eighth in the NCAA so far this season.
On Saturday, the team participated in the Inland Northwest Invitational hosted by Whitworth. A relatively small squad traveled, but they saw success across the board.
Camryn Crouch picked up two podium placements, placing second in the 60m dash (7.67s) and first in the 200m (25.20s).
Olivia Martin was less than a step behind Crouch in the 200m, placing second with a time of 25.31s.
Jurrian Hering and
Deyondre Davis went three and four in the 60m hurdles with times of 8.16s and 8.43s.
Belen Garcia Arias was the sole competitor on the women's side in the 60m hurdles, picking up sixth with a time of 9.35s. Davis earned a second-place finish in the 400m with a personal best time of 49.82s as well.
The women dominated in the 400m with four Vandals in the top five.
Prabhasha Wickramaraachchi ran a personal best of 56.41s, followed by Martin in second with a time of 56.86s,
Franziska Stoehr in third with a time of 57.54s, and
Lara Holzhauer in fifth with a personal best of 59.09s.
The jump squads continued to be dominant, earning four top-three finishes.
Landon Peterson kicked the field events off with a second-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.71m.
Ellie Grant brought home two first-place finishes, one in the triple jump (11.12m) and the other in the high jump (1.57m).
Joseph Ruddell continued to impress in the high jump, earning his third-consecutive first-place finish this season with a height of 2.01m.
Noah Culbertson is unstoppable in the shot put, with another first-place finish throwing for a personal-best distance of 17.56m. He has placed in the top three in every meet this season. Freshman,
Mia Sylvester, proved her strength with a first-place finish in the shot put with a personal best distance of 14.11m.
Idaho track and field will return to The Podium next weekend at the WSU Open on February 3rd -4th.
