MOSCOW, Idaho -- The University of Idaho Track & Field/Cross Country program is excited to announce the commitment of Simone Fedel. Fedel will be joining the Vandals this spring and will look to make an immediate impact in the horizontal jump events.
Beginning his career as an all-around athlete, Fedel began competing in the high jump in 2016 and in 2017 competed in events from the hurdles to the shot put. It was not until 2018 that Simone competed for the first time in the triple jump. The 2019 season was a breakout year for Fedel.
Jumping in his first national championships he broke the 15-meter distance for the first time in his career that June at the Italian under-20 Championships for a first-place finish and qualified for the under-20 European Championships where he finished in eighth place.
In 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Fedel saw limited competition opportunities but did qualify for the Italian under-23 Championships indoors and outdoors.
He picked up right where he left off in 2021. Fedel set a huge personal best in the triple jump at 15.62 meters (51'2").
