SACRAMENTO – Rosa Smith scored a career-high 30 points, but Sacramento State outscored Idaho 21-8 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the 71-56 win Thursday night at the Nest in Sacramento.
The game was a back-and-forth battle for the first three quarters, with the Hornets leading 50-48 after a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the third. Sacramento State came out firing to start the fourth with an 8-0 run and never looked back.
Idaho was just 2-12 from the field in the final frame while Sacramento State was 6-13 from the field and 6-6 from the free throw line in the over the last 10 minutes to pull away for the win.
Despite the loss, the Smith had a career night, shooting 10-17, including 5-10 from the three-point line.
Asha Phillips added 10 points and
Beyonce Bea scored 10, adding a team-high nine rebounds.
The loss drops Idaho to 2-1 in Big Sky play and 6-8 overall. Sacramento State is 10-2 overall and 2-0 in Big Sky games.
The Vandals next travel to Portland to face the Vikings Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
