MISSOULA, Mont. – The Vandals (1-18, 0-7 BSC) were swept by Montana (7-11, 3-3 BSC), 17-25, 12-25, 16-25, on Thursday night at Dahlberg Arena.
Five Vandals posted three or more kills while setter
Natalia Wielgus recorded a team-high 14 assists to lead Idaho offensively.
Renata Lopez Morales and
Aine Doty paced the Idaho defense, tallying four blocks and 22 digs, respectively.
Montana won the first set, 25-17. Idaho had its struggles on the attack, hitting .154 with five errors in the set, while the Grizzlies hit .316.
The second frame went in favor of the Grizzlies, as they earned a 25-12 result. Montana used an 8-0 run early and five straight points late to go up 2-0 in the frame. The Vandals were held to only two kills.
The Grizzlies won the match with a 25-16 victory in the third set. Idaho held a 5-2 advantage to start but it was a 9-0 Montana run to make it 11-5. The Vandals would pull within one (12-13) but that's the closest they'd come as UM earned the sweep.
The Vandals will look to turn it around Saturday when they travel to Montana State for a match at 11 a.m. PT in Bozeman.
