CHENEY, Wash. – The Vandal soccer team clinched a spot in the Big Sky Tournament following a come-from-behind 2-1 win at Eastern Washington on Sunday afternoon.
Maddy Lasher and Annika Farley led the offense with one goal each in the second half. After being out with injury most of the season, Lasher scored her first of the season. Farley has three goals on the season, and this was her first game-winner this year. Makenzie Burks assisted on Lasher's goal and Margo Schoesler sent it in for Farley.
For the first time this season, the Vandals fought back from a deficit to earn the three points. The Eagles got on the board in the 16th minute.
Idaho fought hard finding the breakthrough in the 62nd minute. The play started on the left side as Burks sent in a cross from deep in the midfield. Lasher ran onto the cross, getting her foot on it by any means necessary. She was able to redirect it around the keeper and even it up for Idaho.
Exactly four minutes later, the Vandals scored the go-ahead goal in a very similar matter. Like many times this season, Schoesler cut the ball back on the left side and served it in deep into the penalty box. Farley got a toe on the ball, redirecting it into the near side of the goal.
Idaho led the game with 20 shots to Eastern Washington's 10. Kira Witte did not see much action besides the goal, recording two saves in the 90 minutes.
The Vandals sit in third place in the conference with 10 points. Idaho has a chance to earn second in the regular season with two wins in the final games this week dependent on losses from Montana and Portland State. Idaho hosts Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona on Friday and Sunday, with a senior celebration on Sunday's match.
