Vandal Hoops Close Out Homestand Tuesday Night against Pacific

MOSCOW, Idaho – After earning its third home victory of the season this past Saturday, the Idaho men's basketball team will look to continue its recent success in a matchup against Pacific on Tuesday. The Vandals and Tigers will tip-off at 6 p.m. inside ICCU Arena.

Last Time Out
Idaho got it done on both ends of the floor to help post a convincing 85-70 win over Cal Poly on Saturday afternoon. 

It was an all-around scoring effort, as seven different players recorded at least eight points, including a team-high and season-high 18 points from D'Angelo Minnis. Terren Frank, Tyler Linhardt and Julius Mims each recorded 11 points while Quinn Denker and Kyson Rose added nine points and EJ Neal posted eight points en route to Idaho's first win over Cal Poly since Nov. 25, 2017 (75-66). 

Idaho shot 49 percent (26-53) from the field, 41 percent (9-22) from three and 73 percent (24-33) from the foul line. The Vandals converted 15 Mustang turnovers into 22 points. 

Scouting the Tigers 
Pacific is sitting with a 4-5 overall record and 1-2 mark on the road. The Tigers hold wins over Cal (87-79), Lamar (77-76), Le Moyne (73-71) and Mississippi Valley State (68-65 OT). The Vandals and Tigers have faced one common opponent this season in Cal-State Northridge. Pacific fell at home to Northridge, 69-80 while Idaho dropped a home game to the Matadors, 73-76. 
 
The Tigers are well rounded on the offensive end with six players averaging at least six points a game. Judson Martindale leads the team with 11.3 points per game on 46 percent shooting from the field followed by Donovan Williams (9.3), Lesown Hallums Jr (8.4), Cam Denson (7.8), Moe Odum (7.3) and Burke Smith (6.9). 

Offensively, Pacific averages 66.6 points per game while allowing 74.9. The Tigers rank second in the WCC in a handful of stat categories including assists per game (16.3), free throw attempts (20.9), steals (7.0) and three-point percentage defense (29.1).

Series History 
The two programs will face off for the 20th time in series history on Tuesday, with the Tigers holding a 16-3 record dating back to 1977-78. Most recently, Idaho secured its first win over Pacific since 2003 with a 84-81 road win in Stockton last season.

Vandal Notables
  • Through eight games, the Vandals rank first in the Big Sky in bench points (29.5) and blocks per game (4.5). Idaho's second unit has been fantastic all season, scoring at least 20 points in seven games and over 50 points in two games. Protecting the rim has been another strong suit for this Idaho team, posting five or more blocks in four games. 
  • Offensively, the Vandals are rated as a top 2 team in the conference in shooting efficiency, holding a 45.9 field goal percentage. As a team, the Vandals have shot 44 percent or better in five games.  
  • Idaho also ranks third in assists per game (14), rebound margin (1.8), offensive rebounds per game (10.3) and scoring margin (5.1). 
  • Idaho has enjoyed an all-around effort on the offensive end with five players averaging at least eight points a game - Julius Mims (10.9), Quinn Denker (10.1), D'Angelo Minnis (9.5), Terren Frank (9.1) and Kyson Rose (8.8). 
  • Mims name is amongst the top of multiple stat categories for Idaho, as he leads the way in scoring, rebounding (7.6), steals (10) and blocks (12). He also sits third in shooting percentage at 59.4. Not only has Mims been highly effective on the offensive end, but he also prides himself on the defensive end. The Billings, Montana native ranks first in the Big Sky in total blocks and blocks per game (1.5). 
  • Fifth-year guard D'Angelo Minnis is starting to find his groove on the offensive end, averaging 16 points per game on 49 percent (18-37) shooting from the field and 39 percent (7-18) from behind the arc over the last three games. Minnis has also been an integral part of setting up the Idaho offense, as he ranks fourth in the Big Sky in total assists at 29 and fifth in assists per game with 3.6.
  • All 14 Vandals who have made an appearance this season have scored at least three points while 10 different players have scored 10 or more in a single game this season - Trevon Blassingame, Quinn Denker, Terren Frank, Tyler Linhardt, Tyler Mrus, Julius Mims, D'Angelo Minnis, EJ Neal, Kyson Rose and Titus Yearout. FDU transfer Trevon Blassingame is starting to heat up as the season goes on, scoring 10 or more points in the two of the past three games.
  • After falling out of the starting lineup and moving to more of a sixth man role, Blassingame has stepped up on both ends of the floor, recording a combined 28 points, three steals and two blocks. He's been Idaho's most efficient three-point shooter, knocking down nine threes on a 50 percent clip.
