MOSCOW, Idaho – Vandal track and field hosts the Big Sky Indoor Championships this week, Thursday, February 23
rd through Saturday, February 25
th.
Lorenz Herrmann and
Mia Sylvester enter the weekend with the Big Sky's top marks in their respective events.
Both the men's and women's sides were picked to finish second in the Big Sky preseason polls and this weekend they will have the opportunity to prove it. The Vandals are returning 11 podium finishers from last year's championships where they placed second (men's) and third (women's) overall.
On the men's side, Herrmann returns to repeat his first-place finish in the men's 800 meters. He currently has the fastest time in the conference with the school record time of 1:47.39.
Jurrian Hering looks to find the podium again in the 60 meters and the 60-meter hurdles where he placed second and third, respectively.
Jemini Archer has the fifth fastest time in the 200m currently and hopes to see the podium again this year.
Spencer Barrera will compete in the 400m after placing second last year. He is currently ranked second in the conference with a time of 47.22s. Lastly,
Joseph Ruddell is looking to climb up in the ranking in the high jump. Ruddell has the third-highest mark in the Big Sky with a height of 2.08m but has the potential to go even higher with a personal best of 2.15m.
On the women's side,
Camryn Crouch is looking to medal in both of her events once again. She will compete in the 60m and the 200m dashes, with top-10 times in both. Last year's second place 4x400 relay team returns with one change.
Olivia Martin,
Prabhasha Wickramaraachchi, and
Franziska Stoehr will potentially be joined by Crouch as they have the third-fastest time in the Big Sky currently.
Tayler LyDay has the second-longest triple jump distance at 12.25m in the Big Sky and aims to best her third-place finish from last year.
Schedule
Thursday will highlight the multi events only. The men's heptathlon will start the day off with the 60m dash at 10:30 a.m. followed by women's pentathlon's 60m hurdles at 10:30 a.m. Events will likely conclude at 4:00 p.m. on the first day.
On day two, the men's heptathlon will conclude the final two events starting at 10:00 a.m. The rest of the events will kick off at 2:45 p.m. after the national anthem with men's 60m hurdles and women's long jump. Friday will have a ton of action as it will wrap up around 7:45 p.m. after the women's distance medley relay.
The last day will consist of finals for the remaining track and field events. The national anthem will sound at 10:00 a.m. and will be followed up by the men's weight throw at 10:15 a.m. and the men's mile at 11:25 a.m. The 4x400 meter relays will wrap up the competition following the completion of all field events at roughly 3:30 p.m. The awards ceremony will follow.

Top-10 Performers
Herrmann and Sylvester are joined by several other Vandals that line the top-10 spots in the Big Sky. Herrmann holds the number one spot in the men's 800 meters with a school record time of 1:47.39. As a freshman, Sylvester has the top spot with a personal best distance of 14.85m in the women's shot put.
