FARMINGTON, Utah -- Francisco Bascon has been named Big Sky Men's Tennis Player of the Week after combining for six wins in three matches over the weekend. Bascon helped the Vandals earn victories over North Dakota (5-2), Lewis-Clark State College (7-0), and Whitworth (7-0).
The 2021 Big Sky MVP and two-time Big Sky first-teamer collected his first weekly honor of the 2023 season and the fifth of his career.
Bascon opened the weekend against North Dakota with a 7-5 win with partner
Matteo Masala in doubles action before posting a come-from-behind result in singles play. After dropping the first set by way of a tiebreak (7-5) to Gerhard Sullwald, Bascon secured 6-1 and 6-4 wins to help earn the Vandals a 5-2 victory over the Fighting Hawks.
The native from Spain wrapped up the weekend with a pair of straight-set singles wins and two more doubles victories on court one over LCSC and Whitworth to complete his perfect weekend.
Heading into conference play, Bascon holds an 11-3 singles record at No. 1 and a 7-4 mark in doubles action with Masala.
Bascon and the Vandals will travel to Pocatello, Idaho to compete against in-state rival Idaho State on Saturday, March 25 at 10 a.m. PT.
