MOSCOW, Idaho – The Vandal track and field team heads up to Spokane this weekend for their first outdoor meet of the season. The 2023 Buc Scoring Invite will start at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday and go through 6:45 p.m. on Friday.
Many teams from the Northwest will be represented at the event this weekend including: Gonzaga, Eastern Washington, Lewis-Clark, Washington State, Whitworth, and more.
On Thursday, the Vandals will start with women's hammer throw at 2:00 p.m. Three Vandal women are set to compete, including
Paige Palzinski,
Lily Phenicie and
Mia Sylvester. This will be Phenicie and Sylvester's debut in the event.
Weston Jeffries and
Reid Thomas will compete for the men in the hammer throw.
The men's javelin throw will follow at 4:00 p.m.
Nathyn Maller will represent the Vandals with an overall second place seed mark of 64.37m.
The sole running event of the day will be the men's 5K at 5:30 p.m. Sophomore,
Cruz Flores will represent the Vandals with the seventh overall seed time of 14:44.55.
Idaho will return to the track at 2:30 p.m. on Friday starting off with long jump.
Tayler LyDay and
Anna Spatz are ranked top-five in the seeding at the No. 1 and No. 5 spots, respectively. LyDay has the leading mark of 5.82m followed by Spatz at 5.06m. On the men's side,
Landon Peterson and
Cash Jones will compete. Peterson has the second-overall seed at 6.85m and Jones has the fourth-overall seed at 6.75m.
The first running event for the Vandals will be the 4x100m relay. The women's team will be represented by
Tayler LyDay,
Camryn Crouch,
Olivia Martin, and
Prabhasha Wickramaraachchi. The men's team will consist of
Jemini Archer,
Jon Watkins,
Spencer Barrera, and
Jurrian Hering.
11 women and 12 men are pinned to compete in the 1500m run. The women will kick it off at 3:20 p.m. followed by the men. Pattis has the top seed time at 4:26.45 followed by
Leah Holmgren in fourth at 4:36.20 and
Kelsey Swenson in fifth at 4:36.34.
Lorenz Herrmann leads the men with a seed time of 3:42.11. Last year, Herrmann set the meet record with a time of 3:42.11.
The field events will round out with shot put, discus, and high jump. Reigning indoor conference champion, Sylvester has the top seed mark at 15.75m. She will be joined by Phenicie and Palzinski in the event. On the men's side,
Noah Culbertson, Jeffries, and Thomas will represent the Vandals. Culbertson has the second-overall seed mark of 17.69m. These six athletes will then transition over to discus afterwards.
Four Vandals will compete for the women in the high jump, led by
Julia Hayes with the third-overall seed mark of 1.73m.
Joseph Ruddell leads the men with the No. 1 seed mark at a height of 2.15m. He will be joined by
Joe Reiber and
Dante Cox.
The remainder of the day will be filled with sprints and hurdles followed by 3000m steeplechase.
Belen Garcia Arias will compete in the 100m hurdles for the women followed by
Deyondre Davis and
Landon Peterson in the 110m hurdles for the men.
After the short distance hurdles, the event will move on to the 400m dash at 4:15 p.m.
Camryn Crouch has the top-seed time of 56.06 for the women in the 400m dash.
Jemini Archer has the second-seed time for the men at 49.00. Three men will compete in the 100m dash right after, led by
Jurrian Hering with the top-seed time of 10.56.
Lara Holzhauer, Wickramaraachchi, Garcia Arias, and Davis will run the 400m hurdles for the first time since last outdoor season. The three women rank top-five in the seed times and Davis has the top-seed for the men with a time of 51.12.
11 Vandals will compete in the 3000m steeplechase to round out the two-day event. Pattis,
Abigail Thomas,
Nathalia Campos,
Kate Bouse, and
Sarah Pecha are set to compete for the women.
Sam Fulbright,
Gage Zanette,
Shea Mattson,
Zac Knapp,
Miles Ferguson, and
Tyler Graff will compete for the men.
