LEWISTON, Idaho – Idaho men's tennis returned to its winning ways on Friday afternoon, earning a 5-2 decision over Portland State at the LCSC Tennis Center.
The Vandals continued to find success in doubles play, earning victories on courts one and three to go ahead 1-0 to start the match.
Francisco Bascon and
Matteo Masala were first to come out on top with a 6-2 result at No. 1 before duo
Alex Asenov and
Bruno Casino clinched with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
Casino posted Idaho's second point of the day. He put together a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win over Jonas Mathiasen at No. 3 before fellow Spaniard teammate Bascon added a straight-set win, 6-2, 6-2 over Andrea Brignacca on court one. Portland State saw its first points of the day with a straight-set win on court four.
The Vandals closed out the match with two consecutive victories on courts two and five.
Francisco Gay delivered a 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 2 position while freshman
Taiyo Kurata won by way of a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 5.
Idaho improves to 11-8 on the season and 4-2 in Big Sky play, while Portland State moves to 6-13 overall (1-5 BSC).
Idaho wraps up regular season play with a Senior Day matchup against Weber State on Saturday, April 21 at noon.
