MOSCOW, Idaho – Track and Field wrapped up their final weekend of regular season competition at the Arizona Desert Heat Classic and the Oregon State High Performance Meet. The Vandals recorded 24 personal records on the weekend and seven placed top-five in their respective events.
Idaho is peaking at the right time in the season as 17 Vandals recorded marks that rank in the top 10 in the Big Sky including four that sit in the top-100 in the NCAA – Division I.
"I thought we had a great weekend," said Tim Cawley, Director of Track & Field/Cross Country. "We felt very solid going into our final weekend of conference. Our distance squad put up some very impressive numbers and are coming into shape at the right time. In Arizona, we had a lot of good things happen with a lot of PRs. We're coming together at the right time and I'm excited to see what we'll do at conference."
OSU High Performance Meet
At Oregon State, the distance squad had success bringing in many personal and season bests. Elise Abbott, Zac Bright, Lorenz Herrmann, Zac Knapp, and Noah Culbertson all picked up top-five finishes in their events.
Abbott earned her highest finish of the season in the 1500m in fourth place. She ran a personal best time of 4:39.55. Herrmann and Bright finished second and fourth in the 800m. Herrmann ran a season-best time of 1:47.80 and ranks second in the Big Sky. Bright set a new personal best with a time of 1:49.80 and sits third in the Big Sky. Knapp was the final top-five finisher for the distance runners earning fifth in the 3000m steeplechase. Knapp also set a new personal best with a time of 9:09.60 and ranks at No. 10 in the Big Sky.
Culbertson was the lone thrower at the event where he placed second in the shot put and seventh in the discus throw. He threw for a distance of 17.16m in the shot put and 43.70m in the discus throw.
Arizona Desert Heat Classic
At Arizona, 13 Vandals recorded new personal bests and two Vandals finished top-five among a fierce group of competition. While there were not many podium finishes, 12 marks from the event currently rank top-10 in the Big Sky.
Simone Fedel and Justyn Rogers were the two Vandals that placed in the top five at the Desert Heat Classic. Fedel brought home a bronze finish in the triple jump with a distance of 15.03m. Rogers earned a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a personal best distance of 7.49m and ranks third in the Big Sky.
Deyondre Davis improved his No. 1 spot in the Big Sky following a season-best time of 51.88m in the 400m hurdles.
Idaho will have the weekend off to prepare for the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in Greeley, Colo. on May 11-13.
