Vandal Soccer Falls to Washington, 3-1

MOSCOW, Idaho – Vandal soccer fell to the University of Washington, 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in the P1FCU Kibbie Dome. Idaho is now 1-1 on the season while Washington improved to 1-0-1.

The score may have been 3-1, but the Vandals fought hard until the final whistle. The Huskies rarely had a chance to breathe as Idaho maintained strong pressure through the full 90 minutes. Alyssa Peters moved into the Idaho record book with an assist in today's loss. With 12 career assists, she ranks tied for ninth all-time.

The first half of the game was split evenly in terms of possession and shots on goal (three). Idaho had the first quality chance by Jayd Sprague from deep. The shot soared toward the net, but Washington's keeper was able to get a hand on it, redirecting it out for a corner.

The Huskies quickly responded with a goal in the 17th minute. No. 15, Radisson Banks cleaned up a bouncing ball in the box, placing it just out of Kira Witte's reach.

Just over 20 minutes later, the Vandals tied it up off a corner kick. Peters stepped up to take the corner and served it to the far side directly to Sprague's head. With solid contact, Sprague was able to frame it on goal, beating the keeper near post. With her first goal of the season, Sprague now has three under her belt as a Vandal.

After tying it up, the momentum seemed to shift in favor of the Vandals. Unable to add another to the tally in the first half, the teams entered the locker room 1-1.

Washington came out for the second half with a vengeance. The Huskies managed to score off their only two shots on goal in the second half while Idaho's best chance off a deep shot from Naomi Alvarez skimmed off the top post.

Both teams played with passion and physicality as the center official issued three yellow cards throughout the game on a combined 23 fouls (13 for Washington, 10 for Idaho). Jadyn Hanks led the team with three shots. Witte, Sprague, and Cassidy Elicker played the full 90 minutes.

The Vandals hit the road for the first time this season at Utah Tech on 8/24 and UNLV on 8/27.
