MOSCOW, Idaho - The Vandals fell to North Dakota State in four sets, 15-25, 25-22, 18-25, 15-25 on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gym.
For the second day in a row, outside hitter
Taryn Vrieling led the way with 10 kills for the Vandals while
Zuzanna Wieczorek followed with nine kills.
Lacy Cox set up the attack with a total of 20 assists. Defensively, libero
Aine Doty delivered her second double-digit dig effort with a team-high of 20.
North Dakota State started the game strong, winning the opening set 25-15. The Bison used a key 8-0 run to build separation and help give them the momentum to go up 1-0. The Vandals struggled to get past the NDSU defense, hitting .143 in the set.
The Vandals rallied in the second set to win, 25-22. With the score tied at 16-16, Idaho used a 5-0 run to make it 21-16 and ultimately help even things at 1-1. The Vandal offense posted 15 kills and two service aces in the set.
North Dakota State takes the third set, 25-18 to go up 2-1. Idaho started with a 6-3 lead before the Bison went on a 6-0 run to go up 9-6. The Vandals responded with three straight points to even the scoreboard, but NDSU used an 8-1 run to help seal a set three victory.
The Bison took the match with a 25-15 decision in the fourth frame. NDSU went on a 7-1 run early on which gave them a commanding 15-5 lead and the Vandals were unable to battle back.
The Vandals will finish out tournament play tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. against UC Riverside to wrap up the Vandal Volleyball Invitational.
