Vandal Soccer Dominates Idaho State, 4-0

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho soccer handed Idaho State their biggest loss in series history, 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Vandals improved to 1-0-1 in conference play and extended their win streak to three straight games over Idaho State.

Alyssa Peters has assisted on at least one goal in five of the last six games tallying seven on the season and 18 in her career. She is tied for second all-time at Idaho in career assists, she trails behind Megan Cummings (1998-01) with 22.

Kira Witte registered 10 saves on the day, the second-highest of the season and third-highest of her career. In just the first half she saved seven shots, the most that she has seen in 45 minutes all season.

Five different Vandals registered an assist in today's win. Jadyn Hanks scored her second career brace and first of the season. Hanks has four goals on the season and 12 in her career. Hannah Alfaro scored in her second straight game for her fourth goal of the season and seventh in her career. Alfaro leads the team with 10 points off four goals and two assists. Hanks is right behind with nine points.

The Vandals wasted no time getting on the board in the eighth minute. For the third time this season, Alyssa Peters stepped up to the left corner and served the ball into the 18-yard box straight to Jayd Sprague's dome. Peters leads the Big Sky with seven assists this season.

Less than 10 minutes later, Hanks doubled the lead with a clinical one-touch finish off a through ball from Margo Schoesler. Schoesler slotted the ball through the Bengals' back line into Hanks' stride. Hanks met the bouncing ball with her left foot and redirected it to the far side of the net.

In the 61st minute, Idaho added another goal to the tally with a fantastic team build-up. The ball traveled from Karli Yoshida Williams to Annika Farley to Jadyn Hanks to Hannah Alfaro and back to Hanks. The passing sequence led to Alfaro on the right side of the 18-yard box against two Bengals' defenders. Alfaro juked the defenders and slotted the ball into Hanks in the penalty area. Once again, only one touch from Hanks was needed to beat the keeper on the far post.

51 seconds later, Alfaro knocked in a goal of her own off a cross from Yoshida-Williams. Yoshida-Williams beat the defender down the end line on the left side of the field and found Alfaro on an island just outside the 18-yard box. Alfaro took a touch and blasted the shot past Idaho State's keeper. Alfaro has scored three goals this season and __ in her career.

The Vandals host top-ranked Montana next weekend on Sunday afternoon (10/1) at 1:00 p.m. in the P1FCU Kibbie Dome.
