Chavez Named Big Sky Player of the Week

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho kicker and punter Ricardo Chavez hit a go-ahead field goal with one second left on the clock to lift Idaho to a win over No. 4 Sacramento State. The kick capped a productive game that saw him go 3-3 on field goals, including an Idaho career-long 50-yarder, and 3-3 on PATs. For his efforts, he was named the Big Sky Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time in three games.

Chavez leads the FCS in field goal percentage at a perfect 8-8 this season. He is one of 11 kickers that is yet to miss this year, but he is the only kicker with more than five attempts.

He punted once Saturday, a 42-yarder. He has only punted four times this season, not enough to qualify for the NCAA statistical rankings, but his average of 57.3 yards would be 9.9 yards longer than the current FCS leader.

The award is Chavez' second of the season, he was also named the FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week after the win over Nevada.

The Vandals are on the road this week for a game against No. 19 Eastern Washington, Saturday at 1 p.m., the game will be broadcast on SWX.
