MOSCOW, Idaho: The Vandal soccer team (6-2-2) hosts the University of Montana (6-2-2) for Idaho's third conference game of the season. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. PST.
ABOUT IDAHO: Idaho soccer kicked off conference play this past week against Weber State (0-7-2) and Idaho State (3-9-0). Idaho is tied for first in the conference with four points alongside Sacramento State and Portland State.
The Vandals tied Weber St. 1-1 for Idaho's Big Sky home opener with the game tying goal made by
Hannah Alfaro assisted by
Alyssa Peters on Thursday evening.
On Sunday the Vandals travelled to Pocatello, Idaho to face off with in-state rival Idaho State. The Vandals scored four goals against the Bengals, two of which were from senior forward
Jadyn Hanks. The other goals were scored by
Jayd Sprague and
Hannah Alfaro.
Alyssa Peters was named the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career. This honor came right after assisting the Vandals on the game-equalizer against Weber Stare and the game-winner against Idaho State. Peters quickly became a necessity for the Vandal offense, assisting in five out of the last six games with at least one assist per game. Peters currently leads the conference in assists per game as well as total assists. She is ranked No. 10 in the NCAA for assists per game and No. 8 for total assists.
ABOUT MONTANA: The Grizzlies are kicking off their conference play this Thursday the 28
th against Eastern Washington University. Montana finished up non-conference play last week 6-2-2, matching up against teams like Colorado State, Ohio State, and Utah Tech. The Griz put up a good fight this past week when they played Oregon State ending in a 0-0 tie as well.
The University of Montana's scoring is led by Eliza Bentler, Sydney Haustein, and Skyleigh Thompson who have three goals each so far this season.
Idaho's record against the Griz is 9-12-1, going 5-6-0 home, 2-4-1 away and 2-2-0 at neutral sites. The Vandals faced Montana twice last season, featuring two game-winning goals from
Margo Schoesler. One of the goals came in regulation off a penalty kick and the second occurred in overtime at the Big Sky Conference tournament sending the Vandals to the championship.
