Vandals Complete Day One of Lauren McCluskey Memorial

MOSCOW, Idaho - The Vandals wrapped up a successful day one of the 2024 Lauren McCluskey Memorial with four gold medal winners and eleven podium finishers.

Hanna Tait made her mark by winning the women's pentathlon in her second collegiate meet. The freshman kicked off the morning with a win in the 60m hurdles (8.89). She then finished third in the high jump (1.62m) and earned another victory in the long jump (5.70m). Tait's 3728 points are the most by a Vandal since 2013 (Johanna Hocketstaller, 3733) and the most from a freshman all-time.

Lorenz Herrmann earned a second gold medal in his second meet of the year. Herrmann finished the men's mile at a 4:07.82 mark, the seventh fastest in the Big Sky this year. Tim Stevens followed in second with a new personal best, 4:09.58, the fifth fastest time in school history. Shea Mattson (4:13.91) and Shane Gard (4:14.92) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

Jemini Archer was next to take gold with another personal best in the men's 200m at a 21.57 mark, the sixth fastest time in Idaho history. Senior Spencer Barrera came in fourth at 21.76.

In the field, Junior Weston Jeffries reached the podium in the men's weight throw. His new personal record of 16.77m earned him third place. Freshman Gioele Tengattini followed Jeffries in fourth place (16.51m). 

Camryn Crouch, Olivia Martin, and Prabhasha Wickramaraachchi swept the podium in the women's 200m. Crouch's first-place 24.70 mark is the fourth fastest in the Big Sky this year. Martin finished just behind at 24.89 and Wickramaraachchi crossed third at 25.17.

Sam Fulbright took silver medal honors in the men's 3000m with his new personal best of 8:32.45. 

For the women, Katja Pattis also took second in the women's 3000m at 9:49.50, the fastest time in the conference this year.

Mia Sylvester capped off the night for the Vandals with a second-place finish in the women's weight throw. Sylvester's best throw came from her fifth attempt at 16.78m, her best this season.

The action continues tomorrow morning with the final events of the men's heptathlon beginning at 9 a.m.
