Vandal Soccer Sweeps Big Sky Weekly Honors

Hannah Alfaro-Black and Alyssa Peters earn conference honors after leading Idaho to a perfect 2-0 weekend.

FARMINGTON, Utah -- Idaho women's soccer sweeps Big Sky Player of the Week honors for the first time since 2021. Hannah Alfaro-Black received her first career Offensive Player of the Week nod, while Alyssa Peters was named Defensive Player of the Week by the conference on Tuesday morning.

In the opening week of conference action, the duo led the Vandals to a 2-0 shutout over Sacramento State on Friday and a 3-0 victory against Portland State on Sunday. Idaho (8-3-1) sits atop the Big Sky standings with a perfect 2-0 record in Big Sky play.

Alfaro-Black scored in her third consecutive game, including two goals on the weekend to lead Idaho to a pair of conference wins. She currently ranks second on the team and tied for fourth in the conference with four goals on the season. Her eight points on the year also rank her in a tie for sixth amongst Big Sky players.

Alfaro-Black's third goal of the season came in the 72nd minute against Sacramento State. The scoring opportunity was awarded through a penalty kick that Alfaro-Black took advantage of to put the Vandals up 2-0.

Two days later, Alfaro-Black scored her fourth goal of the season, securing her second game-winner in three games by finding the back of the net in the 32nd minute against Portland State. Cassidy Elicker delivered a pass that deflected off the head of a PSU defender and dropped in front of Alfaro-Black where she took care of the rest. She used her right foot to guide the ball over the Portland State goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

The reigning Big Sky Defensive MVP, Peters had a record-setting weekend to start conference action. She scored her second career goal in the seventh minute to help the Vandals secure a 2-0 victory over the Hornets. She split the defense and lasered the ball past the keeper on a free kick to find the back of the net for her first game-winner. Peters' encore included career assists No. 23 and 24 in a 3-0 win over Portland State to secure the top spot in the Idaho record books, passing Megan Cummings (23, 1998-01). She is now three assists away from tying Weber State's Chansi Crompton's mark of 27.

Peters has continued to be lethal on set pieces, assisting on two goals on a pair of free kicks. She helped increase the Vandal lead to 2-0 in the 65th minute against Sac State off a pass in the box that connected with Sara Rodgers. Peters followed that up with another free-kick opportunity, lofting a pass into the box to find KV Miller in the 72nd minute, making it 3-0 over Portland State.

This marks the third Big Sky Conference honor for Idaho soccer this season. The Vandals will look to make it four straight wins when they travel to Cheney to face Eastern Washington on Sunday, Oct 6 at 1 pm.
