Peters' Record-Breaking Performance Leads Vandals to 3-2 Win at NAU

Alyssa Peters breaks Big Sky Conference career assists record

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – There was no stopping Alyssa Peters on Sunday as the Idaho women's soccer team picked up a valuable 3-2 win at Northern Arizona.

Peters ascended to the top of the Big Sky record books with two assists to tie, then later break, the conference's all-time assists record, and sandwiched a goal of her own in between to spark the Vandals (9-4-2, 3-1-1 BSC).

NAU (2-6-4, 2-2 BSC) opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Erin O'Connor collected a loose ball in the box after a long NAU free kick and slipped it past Idaho goalkeeper Paula Flores

Peters tallied her 27th career assist, and eighth of the season, in the 23rd minute to tie the Big Sky Conference career record. She served a flawless ball into the box on a free kick where Vandal senior Annika Farley fought through NAU defenders to head in the equalizer. It was Farley's fourth goal of the season and marked her third straight game with a goal.

Tying the Big Sky assist record wasn't enough for Peters, as she added a go-ahead goal in the 66th minute, launching a free kick into the box that narrowly threaded the space between a handful of header attempts, the outstretched hands of NAU goalkeeper Trinity Corcoran, and the crossbar, to find the back of the net and put the Vandals ahead 2-1.

Just a few minutes later, Peters broke the all-time Big Sky Conference career assists record, orchestrating yet another set piece goal, this time finding Sienna Gonzales who netted her third goal of the season which proved to be the game-winner.

NAU converted a penalty kick in the 87th minute to cut the Vandal lead to 3-2 after the Vandals were whistled for a hand ball in the box, but Idaho milked the final three-plus minutes to seal the win.

Idaho held a slim, 17-16, advantage in total shots and a 7-6 edge in shots on goal in the game. Flores finished with five saves for the Vandals.
