Volleyball Drops Home Match to Northern Arizona

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho volleyball fell at home to Northern Arizona, 19-25, 19-25, 19-25, on Thursday night at Memorial Gym.

Taylor Brickey and Chiara Gennari led the team in kills with six while Miya Carmichael was the Vandals leader in assists for the sixth straight game with 26. Defensively, Ada Isik delivered her sixth double-digit dig effort leading the team with 13.

Idaho dropped the first set, 25-19. The Lumberjacks built a comfortable lead to start, scoring six of the first seven points. Idaho broke through to return it to a two-point (6-4) match, courtesy of two kills from Gennari. Later in the frame, Idaho used a kill from Julia Dickeson and a service ace by Carmichael to make it a one-point match (11-10). NAU responded with eight of the next 12 points and a four-point spurt to make it 23-15 as the Vandals would not manage a comeback to fall down 1-0.

Northern Arizona earned a set two victory, 25-19. The Vandals posted 10 kills on 23 swings for a .304 hitting percentage. The two teams traded leads throughout the start of the set until the Lumberjacks managed to go on a 4-0 run to give them a 19-14 advantage. The Silver and Gold managed to cut it to 20-17 but the Lumberjacks prevailed by scoring five of the next seven points.

The Lumberjacks earned the match win in the third, 25-19. Idaho got off to a red-hot start to put NAU in a hole in the opening 10 points with an 8-2 lead. The Vandals contained its six-point advantage (10-4) before the 'Jacks began to chip away to make it 13-12 in favor of the Vandals. Both sides traded points to keep the match within two before NAU scored the final seven points to clinch the match victory.

Up next, the Vandals round out a four-match homestand when they welcome Northern Colorado on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.
