Vandal Women Pick Up 13-Point Road Win Over SUU

MOSCOW, IdahoThree Vandals scored in double figures and the Vandals outscored Southern Udah by 16 points in the second half as the Idaho women's basketball team picked up a 66-53 road win over Southern Utah, Saturday to move to 2-2 on the season. 

The win was the first Division I win for first year head coach Arthur Moriera. 

Jennifer Aadland once again proved to be a menace on both sides of the court, recording 15 points and eight rebounds. Olivia Nelson trailed closely behind with 14 points, four assists and three rebounds. Hope Hassman scored 11 points  and added three steals. 

The Vandals jumped out to a 17-10 lead in the first quarter before the Thunderbirds closed the quarter on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 17-15 at the break.

Former Vandal Sydney Gandy hit back-to-back threes to start the second quarter and give SUU a 21-17 lead. The Thunderbirds extended the advantage to 25-19, but Idaho battled back to tie the game at 28. SUU held on to a 33-30 lead at halftime. 

The Vandals took a 40-39 lead with 5:56 to play in the third and never trailed again. Idaho led 46-41 at the end of three and built a double-digit lead early in the fourth. Gandy again hit a pair of threes to help SUU cut the lead to 57-53, but Idaho closed the game on a 9-0 run to finish off the 13-point win. 

Eight of the 10 Idaho players that saw the court contributed at least two points, including all five starters who scored at least nine points each.

The Vandals were 75% (12-16) from the foul line, while shooting 24-59 (40.7%) from the field.  Idaho forced SUU into 19 turnovers and held them to 31.7% (19-60) from the field. 

The Vandals are now 2-2 on the year and next travel to San Luis Obispo, California, on Saturday, November, 23 to take on Cal Poly at 2 p.m. PST.
