Vandal Hoops Deliver 101-58 Win over Geoducks

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho men's basketball team delivered a 101-58 victory over Evergreen State on Tuesday night at the ICCU Arena.

The Vandals had four players reach double-digits, while five others tallied at least five points. Julius Mims and Tyler Mrus led the Vandals with 21 points a piece. Jack Payne led the team on the glass, securing 10 rebounds and one block. Guards Jojo Anderson and Kolton Mitchell each dished out at least five assists as Anderson led the team with eight and Mitchell added five.

The Vandals had a slow start leading 10-9 through the first seven minutes of regulation. Senior forward Julius Mims had back-to-back alley-oop finishes that led to a 15-5 run for Idaho.

The Geoducks brought the lead back within four points (26-30), but Tyler Mrus found a rhythm behind the arc making three of his four three-pointers in the half during the final eight-minute stretch to help increase the Idaho lead to 55-28. Both Mrus and Mims ended the opening period with 15 points.

Idaho's defense held Evergreen State to 30 points in the first period while out-rebounding the Geoducks 27-12, including 14 offensive boards.

Mrus started his second half still in rhythm hitting a 3-point shot, followed by an Isaiah Brickner three 20 seconds later. The Vandals carried this momentum into a 23-9 run, bringing the score to 72-39.

The game ended in a 101-58 victory for the Vandals. Idaho shot 50.7 percent (36-71) from the field while holding Evergreen State to 39.2 percent (20-51). The Vandals dominated the game defensively, forcing Evergreen State into 19 turnovers and scoring 28 points off those opportunities.
