MOSCOW, Idaho - Idaho men's tennis (0-8, 0-1 BSC) hosted in-state rival Idaho State (7-6, 1-0 BSC) in their 2024 home opener and first conference match of the year Friday afternoon in the P1FCU Kibbie Dome. Despite taking the doubles point, the Vandals were unable to keep up with the Bengals, falling 5-2.
Andreas Kramer and Wikus Robbertse of Idaho State struck first in doubles play with a win over
Matteo Masala and
Yu-Shun Lai, 6-1, on court two.
The Vandals then secured a win on court one from
Alex Asenov and
Sebastian Medica who moved to 3-4 as a pair winning 6-4.
Mario Duron and
Alejandro Salvador sealed the doubles point for Idaho in their second doubles victory by way of a 7-6 tiebreaker.
In singles action, the Vandals failed to keep stride with Idaho State as Valentino De Pellegrin defeated
Matteo Masala, 6-4 and 6-1 at No. 1. On court three, Victor Sklenka bested Vandal freshman
Sebastian Medica, 6-1 and 6-4 and
Yu-Shun Lai fell at No. 2, 6-0 and 6-4.
Idaho's
Mario Duron grinded out his second singles win of the year in a three-set match that included two tiebreaks on court four. The senior of Monterrey, Mexico took the first set, 7-6 (7-3) before dropping the second game 7-6 (7-4). Knotted at one apiece, Duron closed the door with a 6-2 victory for Idaho's second point on the day.
Alejandro Salvador then fell in straight sets at No. 5 (7-6, 7-5) while
Alex Asenov fell in three sets on court six (6-4, 4-6, 1-6).
