SPOKANE, Washington - The Idaho Vandals' Track and Field teams wrapped up their fourth meet of the 2024 outdoor season Friday afternoon at the Whitworth Peace Meet. 16 Vandals achieved new personal bests and eight returned with victories in their respective events.
Freshman
Jana Willems finished with two medals after running a personal record of 12.13 for first place in the women's 100m. Willems then ran a 25.37 finishing in second in the 200m.
Sophomore
Mia Sylvester continues to improve as she threw her best marks of the year in the shot put (13.56m) and the discus (41.07m) coming in second in both events.
McKenna Kozeluh took third with a time of 4:41.84 in the women's 1500m, just four seconds shy of her personal best time.
Abigail Thomas scored a victory in the women's 3000m steeplechase at a 10:49.67 mark. Thomas's time stands at sixth in the conference in 2024.
Idaho's jumpers shone on Friday, beginning with
Annika Jozin's 1.62 high jump for third place.
Ellie Grant finished third in the women's triple jump at 11.83m and freshman
Hanna Tait notched a personal best, 5.81m, in the women's long jump.
For the men,
Simone Fedel and
Cash Jones also scored personal records in the men's long jump. Fedel jumped 7.20m for first place and Jones jumped 6.90m for second.
Sophomore
Joe Reiber took second in the men's high jump at 1.92m.
Noah Culbertson scored yet another victory in the men's shot put, throwing 17.44m, just 0.25m shy of his conference-leading 17.69m from the 2024 Buc Scoring Invite.
Freshman
Adeline Wimer ran a personal-best 57.55 in the women's 400 for first place.
Rhyan Madden reached the podium in her hometown with a personal record of 1:04.13 in the 400m hurdles finishing in second.
Tim Stevens earned a victory with his fastest 800 time of 1:51.11.
Shane Gard took second in the men's 5000 at a 14:14.14 mark.
The women's 4x400 relay squad capped off the day with a win at 3:58.72 from Wimer, Madden, Belen Garcia-Arias, and
Emelia Puerta.
The Vandals head to Southern California next week to compete in the Pacific Coast Invitational (Apr. 11), Bryan Clay Meet (Apr. 11-13), and Beach Invitational (Apr. 12-13) meets. Several Vandals will also return to Whitworth for their Twilight and Alumni Meet (Apr. 11).
