MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho's student-athletes,
Ellie Grant and
Jurrian Hering, have been named the Vandal Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month supported by P1FCU.
Grant and Hering are both graduating seniors on the Idaho track and field team. Grant competed for the Vandals in jump events while Hering competed in sprints and hurdles.
Grant hails from Snohomish, Washington and boasts a 3.95 GPA majoring in medical sciences with minors in pre-health professions studies and microbiology.
"Ellie has been an outstanding member of our athletic department," said
Thad Hathaway, Associate Athletic Director. "She excels in the classroom and is also very involved in our SAAC programming."
After graduation this past month, Grant has her next steps lined up at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. At Thomas Jefferson, she will start a Dual Degree Program earning a Master of Physician Assistant Studies and a Doctor of Health Science. "I plan to work as a physician assistant and utilize my doctorate to take on leadership roles in hospitals," explained Grant. "I also hope to become an educator of health sciences in universities."
She reflects back on her time at Idaho and especially in her involvement in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) saying, "I have loved the experience of getting closer to fellow Vandal athletes. It has been an honor to represent the track and field program on campus and in the community. I built relationships by providing reliable contact and liaison between the athletic department and the teams. As a voice of the student-athletes, I enjoyed learning how to help improve their experience."
Hering leaves Idaho with multiple degrees earning a 3.84 GPA in undergrad and a 4.0 in graduate school. In undergrad, he majored in sociology and criminology followed by a masters in adult, organizational learning, and leadership.
Reflecting on his experience at Idaho, Hering acknowledges the leaders he has been surrounded by. "I've learned how important having good leaders in your life is," said Hering. "It has inspired a passion to be able to be that positive influence on people's lives regardless of the field I go into."
Since graduation, Hering has set his roots in Moscow pursuing a job with the Moscow Police Department serving as a patrol officer. "I look forward to get the chance to give back to a community that has given me so much these last five years," exclaimed Hering.
