MOSCOW, Idaho – The Vandal women's soccer team won at home on Thursday night, 2-1 against UC San Diego. Tonight's match featured a brace for Margo Schoesler. Idaho's record is now 4-2 overall and 2-0 at home.
The game was off to a slow start as the chances of scoring were slim within the first 15 minutes
for both the Vandals and the Tritons. Idaho hit their stride, firing off three shots within a close period of time from Karli Yoshida-Williams, a goal-post hit from Sienna Gonzales, and Annika Farley.
The first half consisted of many back and forth possessions until the 23rd minute when Margo Schoesler placed it high into the center of the goal. Schoesler earned the goal by stripping the Triton defender of the ball in the midfield. She dribbled into space within shooting range and fired off a shot from 20 yards out where the UCSD keeper got a mitt on it, but failed to keep it out of the net. That marked her fourth consecutive game scoring at least one goal for the Vandals.

The Tritons decided to add some pressure to the Vandals with a low right goal in the 47th minute with a one-touch finish off a cross from the deep left side. Soon after, Schoesler was lined up for another goal attempt from a cross from Kate Sprink, but the Triton goalie was able to save the header.
The Vandals struck gold as Schoesler launched a top shelf bicycle-styled kick in the 72nd minute to solidify the win for Idaho. The assist was off a corner kick from Alyssa Peters placed within the six-yard box. That tallied as Peter's first assist of the season.

UCSD battled to find the equalizer and even had a promising attempt in the 80th minute that hit the top crossbar. The tensions were high in the last 10 minutes of the game as the possession was tossed between the two teams. As the game was getting down to the wire, Paula Flores had a vital save in the last minute to keep victory in sight of the Vandals.
The Vandals will travel instate this weekend to take on Boise State, Saturday September 8th at 12pm PT.
