Vandals Defeat Eagles in Close Contest

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho prevailed over Eastern Washington in a back-to-back matchup inside the P1FCU Kibbie Dome on Sunday.

The Vandals got off to an early lead, with Georgia Whitehead getting a crossbar shot off closely followed by a rebound to the back of the net from Calli Chiarelli. The team remained defensively strong, posting three saves in the first half to finish the period ahead.

Entering the second half, the Eagles picked up their pace offensively, testing the Vandals' back line. They were able to capitalize on two opportunities, gaining the lead going into the final 12 minutes.

The Vandals were ignited by the deficit and quickly found their way to the offensive third. They were able to create an opportunity for a corner, where Tori Peters found Sara Rodgers in the air for a header goal.

Tying was not enough for Idaho or Rodgers, resulting in them forcing another attack. A pass sponsored by Rodgers found Karli Yoshida-Williams for a third goal less than three minutes later. The goal secured a lead that the Vandals held on to throughout the final five minutes, finishing with a 3-2 win for the black-and-gold.
