MOSCOW, Idaho - After falling to Northern Colorado in the second contest of the year, Idaho Swim and Dive returned to action for the third and fourth, splitting up into groups as the majority of the distance swimmers traveled to Long Beach, CA to compete in the MPSF Open Water Championships while the rest of the swimming squad got on the bus to Seattle for a dual meet with Seattle U in the Redhawk Center.

Over in Washington State, Idaho came into the meet having won twelve in a row dating back to 2012 vs. the Redhawks and Saturday was no different. Isabelle Borke continued a breakout campaign with top finishes in the 200 Y Individual Medley (2:10.24), 200 Y Freestyle (1:55.84), and 100 Y Freestyle (52.76). Madelynn Butler and Grace Qualman finished first and second in the 50 Y Free with times of 24.32 and 24.78, respectively, and Courtney Crawford took home wins in the 200 Y Breaststroke (2:23.18) and 100 Y Breast (1:05.32)

Elsewhere, freshman Haley Roberson recorded the best time of the day in the 200 Y Butterfly (2:12.78) and sophomore Andie Wieber won the day in the 200 Y Backstroke clocked at 2:07.99. In the relays, Katy Foley, Crawford, Grace Ruble, and Borke had the top finish in the 200 Y Medley (1:46.77), trailed just behind by Grace Benson, Kristen Sautel, Butler, and Sydney Heasman (1:47.22). 

All in all, the top finishes for the Vandals led to a convincing team win with a final score of 197-65. 

Down in California, Idaho had a strong presence at the MPSF Open Water Championships, won last year by Ginger Kiefer. Kiefer was once again the top finisher for the Vandals in the 5K with a time of 1:04:49.00, 14th-overall on the day but nearly a full minute faster than her time of 1:05:36.00 in 2024. Bethany Rahn was the next Idaho swimmer to cross the finish line clocked at 1:05:55.00, and Marie Mason (1:07:19.00) and Holly Lenarz (1:07:32.00) rounded out the top four and the top 35 of the 76 swimmers in attendance on the women's side.

UP NEXT
After four road meets to start the year, Idaho is set to return home for the first of three competitions in the UI Swim Center in the span of just over a week. Northern Arizona will come to Moscow for a dual meet on Oct. 31, followed by Denver the next day on Nov. 1, and Colorado State will wrap up the slate in the Palouse on Nov. 8.
