FARMINGTON, Utah – The Big Sky Conference announced its first women's basketball Player of the Week award on Tuesday afternoon, Kyra Gardner of the Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball team was tabbed as this week's winner of the award.

Gardner, who is coming off what is easily the best week of her career, started the season with a game that felt like it was tailor-made for Hollywood. After spending the prior three seasons at Washington State, Gardner transferred to Idaho this offseason and got the first start of her career against her former squad. In the season opener in Beasley Coliseum, Gardner tallied career highs in points scored (26), rebounds (8), made three pointers (6), and steals (5), and swatted away Washington State's final shot right in front of the Cougar bench to seal the victory for the Vandals.

Later in the week, Gardner scored 16 points against UC Davis with four three pointers and four rebounds, and in just 12 minutes against Walla Walla, Gardner went off for 10 points, a career-high five assists, three steals, and a block.

For the award-winning opening week of the season, Gardner averaged 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.3 steals, and 2.0 assists per contest, all while shooting a .486/.545/.800 clip.
