GAME NOTES (PDF)
IRVINE, Calif. – The Idaho Vandals women's basketball team (5-1) looks to extend its four-game win streak as it takes momentum to Irvine, Calif. for the ZotGiving Classic where it will face the Colgate Raiders and the Wichita State Shockers.
There will be no TV broadcast of either game. The Voice of the Vandals, Doug Taylor, can be heard on Varsity and on the Vandal radio network.
Idaho is one of the hottest teams in the nation right now. The Vandals head into the weekend at 5-1 and on a four-game winning streak, and the offense is firing on all cylinders. Idaho leads the Big Sky Conference and is 20
th in the nation in scoring at over 85 points per game. The Vandals are also one of the best rebounding teams in the country, ranking ninth in the land in total boards per game.
Offensively, the Vandals are led by
Kyra Gardner and
Hope Hassmann who split the first two Big Sky Player of the Week awards of the season.
Lorena Barbosa is coming off the best offensive performance of her career, having scoring a career-high 18 points in Idaho's game against CSUN last Sunday.
UI is led by second-year head coach,
Arthur Moreira, who is the only Brazilian head coach in Division I history.
Colgate comes into the weekend at 4-1 on the season, its only loss coming in its last game against Quinnipiac. While the Vandals like to get up and down the floor with one of the fastest paces in the country, the Raiders slow it down and are averaging 63 points per game. They are led by first-year head coach Shannon Bush.
Idaho will also be playing Wichita State this weekend. The Shockers (1-5) started the season off with a win against Lincoln and have dropped every game since. They have been very competitive all season, though, with those five losses coming by an average of seven points and going to overtime against Western Kentucky.
