BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Idaho Basketball concluded the non-conference season in Bakersfield, California, taking on the CSUB Roadrunners. In a defensive slugfest where neither team got into an offensive rhythm, the Vandals came up just short in the final seconds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
From tip-off, both teams settled in defensively and neither could truly break through. The roadrunners drew first blood with a couple early buckets before Kolton Mitchell knotted it up and banked the team's first three-pointer of the contest.

The Vandals had trouble getting shots to fall in the first frame, going just 25.8% (8-31) from the floor by the break, but were kept in the contest by forcing CSUB into early foul trouble and costly turnovers, limiting big play opportunity and being down just three at the half.

Early in the second, it felt like UI was on track to duplicate the efforts of the Cal Poly contest on Sunday, coming off a slow first half and knocking down shots left and right, including back-to-back threes by Brody Rowbury in the first few minutes.

Rowbury was virtually unstoppable throughout the second half, going 8-12 (66%) from the floor and knocking down the two triples, tying for a game-high 20 points by the buzzer.

From there, however, the hot shooting cooled and the game once again went back to a slugfest with no clear advantage either way, All in all, the lead changed hands 18 times, including the decisive two in the final fifteen seconds. As he had done all day long, Rowbury put up a floater to take a one-point lead, but a mid-range jumper from the Roadrunners with less than five seconds to go proved to be the dagger, as Idaho's half court prayer wasn't answered.

UP NEXT
The Vandals will break for the holiday, concluding the non-conference slate and the calendar year. On Jan. 3, 2026, Idaho will open conference play with the first of three straight home contests, taking on Eastern Washington in ICCU Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM PT, with the game airing on ESPN+, the Vandal Radio Network, and the Varsity Network App.
