GAME NOTES (PDF)
MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball team (16-8, 8-5) returns to the friendly confines of ICCU Arena where it will face off against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (21-6, 12-2). This is the 43rd overall meeting between the two teams, Idaho's all-time record against the Lumberjacks stands at 23-19.
The game can be seen on ESPN+. The game can also be heard on the Vandal Athletic Network with Doug Taylor working as the play-by-play. Thursday's game will also be 90's Night at ICCU Arena, and the Vandals will be giving out cross-body bags to the first 100 fans and 100 students in attendance. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m.
Idaho is led by first-year Head Coach
Arthur Moreira – one of just two first-year head coaches in the country to lead their team to 16 or more after having a losing record the year before. Moreira is the first Brazilian head coach in division one history.
The Vandals currently sit in third place in the Big Sky Conference and are one of the best rebounding and defensive teams in the nation. Idaho leads the conference and is ranked seventh in the nation in field goal percentage defense, limiting opponents to shoot an abysmal 34.9% from the field. There isn't a team in the Big Sky that crashes the defensive glass harder than the Vandals, as Idaho ranks fifth in the country in defensive rebounds per game (30.8) and are sixth in the nation in rebounds per game (43.2).
Offensively the black and gold are led by a dynamic backcourt in
Olivia Nelson and
Hope Hassmann. Nelson is scoring over 16 points per game in Big Sky play – third best in the conference - while Hassmann is putting up 11.9 points per contest and leads the Vandals with 3.4 assist per game.
NAU comes in as the top scoring offense in the Big Sky and is putting up over 80 points per game. The Lumberjack attack is highlighted by Sophie Glancey and Taylor Feldman – the top two scorers in the conference – who are averaging 18.0 and 16.5 points per game, respectively.
