Idaho is led by first-year Head Coach
Arthur Moreira – one of just two first-year head coaches in the country to lead their team to 16 or more after having a losing record the year before. Moreira is the first Brazilian head coach in division one history.
As we come down the home stretch of the regular season, the Vandals currently sit in third place in the Big Sky Conference and have established themselves as one of the best rebounding and defensive teams in the nation. Idaho leads the conference and is ranked seventh in the nation in field goal percentage defense, limiting opponents to shoot an abysmal 35% from the field.
The Vandals are one of the best rebounding teams in the country. Moreira's squad ranks sixth in NCAA women's basketball with 43.3 rebounds per game, and they rank fifth in the nation with 30.8 defensive rebounds per game. That effort is led by
Jennifer Aadland who has been one of the best rebounders in college basketball this season. Aadland leads the Vandals with 9.6 rebounds per game, and ranks 14
th in the country with 7.6 defensive rebounds per outing.
An electric backcourt has been the catalyst for the Vandal offense this season.
Olivia Nelson leads the Vandals and is the third best scorer in the Big Sky with an average of 16 points per game in conference action. Sophomore guard
Hope Hassmann is adding an additional 12 points per game and leads the Vandals with over three assists per contest.
Northern Colorado comes into the matchup riding a three-game winning streak, including a comeback win against Eastern Washington in its most recent outing. In Big Sky play, however, the Bears are just 1-7 in games played away from Greeley, Colo.
