MOSCOW, Idaho - The Idaho Vandal women's tennis squad returned to the P1FCU Kibbie Dome after going 2-0 in played matches in California, missing out on one due to the elements.
Thankfully, rain means nothing when you have the largest college tennis stadium in the world that also happens to have a roof. The elements were irrelevant in the dome as BYU traveled up from Provo to take on the Vandals.
In a contest that was close all day, the Cougars struck first in the doubles matches, securing the point in the first two contests. The momentum would continue to swing the way of the blue and white in singles, but Idaho refused to quit. Hanna Koprowska got UI on the board with a gritty 2-0 win (7-6, 6-3), but BYU clinched the match just after, claiming three of the first four singles points.Â
Valentina Rodas and Naomi Schraeder would fight on despite the loss, with Rodas claiming her match in two sets (6-3, 6-3) and Schraeder rallying from a 0-1 deficit to edge out the second set and claim the tiebreaker (4-6, 7-6, 1-0) to tally a final score of 4-3 in favor of the visiting Cougars.
The Vandals have another road slate ahead of them next weekend before a long stretch of tennis in the dome. The final road contests through the end of March will send UI to Nebraska to take on the University of Nebraska Omaha on Saturday, Feb, 8, and Creighton on Sunday, Feb. 9.Â
