FLAGSTAFF, Arizona – Shawn Twumasi Ampofo stood on the top step of the podium after the men's triple jump for Idaho and the 12-year-old women's 4x400 relay record was broken on the final day of the 2025 Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships.
"Shawn winning the triple jump was the highlight of today along with our women's 4x4 setting a new school record," Director of Track and Field Tracy Hellman said Saturday afternoon.
On his third jump of the day, Twumasi Ampofo flew to a career-best 15.54 meter mark, placing his name at the number three spot in Vandal history. The gold medal-winning jump from the junior is also the 47th longest in the country in 2025. Twumasi Ampofo is the first Vandal to find the podium in the event since 2019.
In the final event of the weekend, Idaho's 4x400 relay team of
Franziska Stoehr,
Blossom Omogor,
Maiya Brunoro, and
Rhyan Madden completed the distance in 3:40.46, finishing third in the race and carving their names into the UI record book. Their time was over a second faster than the previous record, a 3:41.57, set in 2013.
Omogor also competed in the women's 60-meter dash final, running the fourth fastest time in Vandal history, a 7.54. This was after a personal best 7.55 in the prelims on Friday. The sophomore from Warri, Nigeria also set a personal best in the 200, a lightning fast 24.20, which slots into the number three spot in the record book.
In the field, freshman
Cami Cvitkovich cleared the high jump bar set at 1.71, just short of her collegiate best 1.72, to finish fourth in the event, earning valuable points for Idaho.
Mia Sylvester grabbed two more points for the Vandal women in the shot put with a throw of 13.71 meters.
Noah Culbertson closed out his indoor career as a Vandal with his third straight shot put top five finish, posting a mark of 17.13 meters.
To finish the weekend,
Jesuye Doherty was named one of the Big Sky Freshmen of the Year, following his dominant performance in the men's long jump. The Adelaide, Australia native heads into the outdoor season with the fifth longest indoor jump in school history, a 7.68 meter leap.
As a team, the Vandal men closed out the meet in the fifth position with 45 points, just one point ahead of Eastern Washington and Sacramento State. The Idaho women took home sixth after scoring 45 points.
"It was a great finish for our teams at the Big Sky Championships. I was very proud of the way we competed and how we battled throughout the whole meet," Hellman said. "To place top half of the conference is a great accomplishment and I was happy to see our men accomplish that and our women were very close."
"It was a great finish (to) the indoor season for our teams and we now transition to outdoor. As we conclude the indoor season, one thing I know is… it's a great day to be a Vandal!"
The Division I indoor season will close in Virginia Beach, Virginia with the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Idaho will open their 2025 outdoor season the weekend of March 20, with two meets in the Pacific Northwest.
