SPOKANE, Wash.-- Idaho track and field returned to the campus of Whitworth University for the second time in two weeks for Friday's Jeff Rahn Classic. 26 Vandals were entered into the field to compete against fellow DI schools Gonzaga, Washington State, and Eastern Washington.
Mia Sylvester made her mark in her third outdoor meet of the season, competing in the shot put and discus. Sylvester's meet-winning 14.57-meter throw in the shot is her longest in an outdoor meet since 2023 and places her third in the Big Sky rankings. The junior's discus throw was 42.38 meters, as the Belmopan, Belize native took fourth in the event.
Tesse Kamps also found a spot on the podium in the shot put, placing third with a 13.30-meter throw. The freshman now holds the ninth-longest throw in the Big Sky this season.
Wyatt Pickering and
Sara Casebolt were the only Vandals to take on the 800, with both setting personal bests in the event. Pickering, a freshman from Kingman, Arizona, crossed the line in 1:53.49. Casebolt, a Moscow native, completed the distance in 2:14.61, with both taking the 12th spot on the conference performance list.
Fellow freshman
Alex Terry posted a strong time in the 5K, a 17:24.47, the fastest by a Vandal this season. Idaho took second through fifth in the women's 400 hurdles.
Franziska Stoehr led the way with a mark of 1:00.79, under a second off her personal best 59.86, the fifth-best time in Idaho history.
Maiya Brunoro crossed the line in third at 1:02.09, followed by
Lara Holzhauer (1:02.36), and
Rhyan Madden (1:03.35). Idaho now holds four of the top 12 times in the event this season, the most of any school in the Big Sky.
"It was another good performance from our crew this weekend at Whitworth," Director of Track and Field Tracy Hellman explained Friday night. "We had some (personal records) and continued to improve our marks as we inch closer to the conference championships."
On the horizon for the Vandals is a trip to southern California next weekend, to compete in a series of meets in the area.
