MOSCOW, Idaho—The Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball team and Head Coach Arthur Moreira announced the signing of transfer guard Kyra Gardner on Wednesday.

Gardner, a 5'11" native of Raymond, Wash., comes to the Vandals after spending the previous three seasons across the Palouse at Washington State. As a Cougar, Gardner appeared in 90 games and shot .383/.310/.760 splits over the course of her career, while grabbing 1.3 rebounds per contest. During her three seasons at Washington State, Gardner was part of a team that won the PAC-12 Championship and advanced to the NCAA tournament. She brings an impressive amount of experience to next year's Vandals squad having participated in seven national postseason tournament games in her career. 

Her career high of 13 points came on Feb. 29, 2024 against no. 18 Utah. 

As a student-athlete at Raymond High School, Gardner was named the 2021-22 Gatorade Washington Girls Basketball Player of the Year. That same year she was named the 2021-22 WIAA Class 2B Player of the Year after she had averaged 26.7 points, 9.5. rebounds, and 7.0 steals per game during her senior season. She finished her time at RHS as the program's all-time leader in points scored (1,906) and steals (584). She scored 30 or more points in 21 games over her high school career, and also starred for the RHS track and field and volleyball teams, being voted the 2021 2B Pacific League MVP in volleyball.

Gardner is the fourth signing for the Vandals out of the signing portal.

It's really exciting to have Kyra join the Vandal Family. She is an incredible athlete and a very skilled basketball player. She can create her shot in a number of different ways and will be a tough cover for guards in our conference. I think she will fit in great with the way we play, and it will allow her to expand her game and fulfill her potential. She has been part of a program that made three consecutive postseason appearances and won the PAC-12 tournament in 2022-23. She knows what winning looks like!
