PULLMAN, Wash.-- Four Vandals took event victories, and Idaho took two one-two finishes at this weekend's Cougar Classic, as the black and gold inch closer to the Big Sky Outdoor Championships.
Leah Holmgren and
Sara Casebolt grabbed the top two places in the 800, with both running season bests. Holmgren's 2:12.39 is her fastest since 2023 and the 14th best in a crowded Big Sky field. Casebolt crossed the line in 2:13.84, the best time by a Vandal freshman since Holmgren in 2021.Â
Idaho posted strong finishes in the men's long jump and shot put.
Cash Jones held the top spot on the podium following a career-best 7.08-meter jump, as
Landon Peterson took third after his 6.75-meter leap. It was a similar story in the shot put, with
Noah Culbertson and
Gioele Tengattini in first and third, respectively.
Mia Sylvester made waves on the women's side of the shot put, as the junior posted a 15.17-meter throw, her longest outdoor since the 2023 Big Sky meet.Â
The Vandals will now prepare for another split meet weekend, as the team builds into the conference meet that begins on May 14 in Sacramento, California.Â
