MOSCOW, Idaho – Friday, Idaho Track and Field will travel 80 miles to Spokane, Washington for the Whitworth Peace Meet. Action in the Lilac City will begin at 11 a.m. with the women's discus and men's shot put, as the women's 10k will kick off the track events at 12:45 p.m.
The black and gold will be well represented at Whitworth, as 55 student-athletes are slated to compete in Friday's action.
Mia Sylvester will compete for Idaho in the discus for the second time this season. The junior claimed ninth in the event at the outdoor season-opening Oregon Relays after a throw of 37.50 meters.
Tesse Kamps will join Sylvester in the event, who grabbed eighth in Eugene with a 38.54-meter throw in the freshman's first outdoor meet. Kamps and Sylvester will also represent the Vandals in the shotput in Spokane, with both holding down top-10 spots in the Big Sky in the event after the opening weeks of the outdoor season.
Junior
Reid Thomas and sophomore
Gioele Tengattini are slated to represent the Vandals in the men's throws this weekend. Tengattini aims to build on his strong performances in the shot put and discus at the Oregon Preview, where he secured fourth and fifth place. Meanwhile, Thomas will compete in the hammer throw and shot put, looking to make his mark in both events at his second meet of the season.
The Vandals will have a strong presence in the high jump, with
Joseph Ruddell and
Dante Cox competing on the men's side, while
Cami Cvitkovich and
Annika Jozin take on the women's event. Cox is coming off a third-place finish at the Oregon Preview after a jump of 1.90 meters, while Cvitkovich secured fourth in the women's competition following her 1.65 meter jump. Cvitkovic's leap currently ranks fourth in the Big Sky. All four athletes will look to build on their performances this weekend. The women's high jump starts at 1 p.m., with the men's to follow.
Six of Idaho's sprinters will challenge in the 400 meters. Sebastian Bas,
Mika Brouwer, Evan Henkle,
Lydia Nance,
Alyssa Marsh, and Maiaya Brunoro will all run the distance for the first time this season. The 400 will begin at 3:50 p.m.
Following their trip to Spokane, the Vandals will take a week off before attacking a series of meets across the state of California the week of April 16.
