MOSCOW, Idaho - The 2025 Track and Field season has reached the mark where the best of the best earn the opportunity to continue to compete among their peers and establish themselves among the best in the country.

Idaho athletes Katja Pattis, Constanze Paoli, and Mia Sylvester had earned this right with their accomplishments in the Big Sky Championships, securing a conference title and All-Big Sky honors to supplement their cases among the best in the west.

The Vandals brought the same intensity to the west regionals in College Station that earned them the berths in the first place. On Thursday, Sylvester took the stage in the shot put, ending the day with a performance to be proud of, a 14.57m (47'9.75") toss that cemented her status as one of the best throwers, and all-around track and field athletes, in Idaho history. This sentiment was echoed by her head coach, Tracy Hellman.

"Mia had a great showing in the shot put on Thursday and improved her ranking so that was very exciting. She finishes her career at Idaho as one of our all-time best track and field athletes to compete for the Vandals."

On Saturday, Pattis and Paoli took center stage for Idaho in College Station, each competing in the 3000m steeplechase through all-conference honors earned in Sacramento. Paoli earned a 22nd overall finish with a time of 10:17.74, capping a tremendous sophomore season among the best distance runners in all of DI track.

"Conny had a great race in the steeple, but was unable to advance. But she finished in the top half of the field and gained valuable experience for future championships," said Hellman.

The star of the show for Idaho, undoubtedly, was Katja Pattis, whose personal best time of 10:02.04 in the steeplechase secured her a 12th-place finish and an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, OR, otherwise known as "Tracktown USA". Her time further establishes her claim on second-place all time in school history in the event.

Pattis marks the first Vandal to earn a berth to the championships since 2022, when Lorenz Herrmann secured a spot in the 800m, setting what is still the school record of 1:46.90.

"Highlighting the meet was Katja Pattis qualifying for the NCAA Championships," stated Hellman." She not only qualified, but was able to set a school record in the process. Making it is an accomplishment in itself, and to make it to the finals is huge. Only the top twenty-four in the nation qualify, so to have an athlete from Idaho represented is very special."

Pattis will return to Moscow to prep for the championships from Wednesday, June 11, to Saturday, June 14, in Eugene, OR. The women's steeplechase is scheduled for Thursday, June 12, at 4:38 PM PST.
