Vandal Track Signs Five In-State Commits as part of 2025 Class

MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho track and field announces five new in-state members of its 2025 signing class. Among the Idahoans in the class are Lexi Huettig, a three-time state record holder at the 1A level, Chase Lawyer, a dynamic hurdler from Boise, and Lily Sullivan, a cross country veteran from Capital High School. 

"One priority that we identified in the recruitment process is bringing in Idaho kids," stated Director of Track and Field Tracy Hellman. "Being the land-grant University in the state, this is a priority of our program, to recruit local kids that are great individuals not only on the track but within the community." 

LEXI HUETTIG

Huettig hails from Hazelton, Idaho, and joins the Vandals following a highly successful prep career at Valley High School, where she set the 1A state record in the long jump (5.64m), the triple jump (11.57m), and the pole vault (3.51m). She heads into next weekend's state meet seeking her third straight 1A state title in all three events.

JENS KNUTSEN

Knutsen, a middle and long distance runner from Boise High School, finished seventh at the 2024 IHSAA 6A Cross Country Championships in 15:34.34 and was a part of the 2024 state championship-winning 4x800m relay team for the Brave. The Boise native joins the black and gold with personal bests of 1:57.45 in the 800, 4:17.62 in the 1600, and 9:22.76 in the 3200. 
    
LILY SULLIVAN

Sullivan is a middle and long distance from Capital High School in Boise. She has finished in the top-13 of each of the last three state cross country championships, helping to lead the Eagles to a third-place finish, their best as a team in over ten years. During her senior season, Sullivan set her personal best in the 5K, a 18:12.41. She has competed at the varsity level in each of her four seasons. 

NICK JANECKO

A middle-distance specialist from Timberline High in Boise, Janecko placed third in the 800 at the 2024 IHSAA 5A State Championships and was a member of the fourth-place 4x400 state relay team. Janecko took 10th at the 2024 6A District III Cross Country Championships, setting his personal best in the 5K event (16:12.40), leading the Wolves to a fourth-place finish. He has won the 800 at four of the five meets he has competed at this season, setting a personal-best in the event at the Bandanna Invite, 1:53.64.

CHASE LAWYER

The first 2025 signee to be announced, the Boise, Idaho native took third in the 110m hurdles at the 2024 Idaho State Championships as a junior, finishing in 13.41. Lawyer also placed fourth at state in the 300m hurdles, setting his personal best at 38.28 seconds. For his efforts, Lawyer was named 2024 Boise High Hurdler of the Year and was a part of the Boise team that took second. 

"The Pacific Northwest is an unbelievable base for talented track and field/cross country student-athletes," Hellman added. "We are excited to start our 2025 class announcement with some local Idaho athletes who will have big impact on our program in the future. We will follow this up with our additional signees as we close out the recruitment process for this year in the coming months."
