MOSCOW, Idaho: On Saturday, Idaho Volleyball officially transitioned from summer workouts to prep for the fall season. After completing a month of work in the weight room, conditioning, and open gyms, August 2nd marks the first day of the Vandals' training camp.
Also to commemorate this occasion, fans get the latest chance to meet one of the new faces on the team: Sara Hiebert
MEET SARA:
Originally hailing from Goldendale, Hiebert established herself as a force in the state of Washington, earning two all-conference accolades as well as an all-state nod at Goldendale HS. Hiebert and the Timberwolves would win three conference championships and two sectionals together, and she graduated as the school's career leader in blocks (242) and in second place for kills (975).
After finishing her time at Goldendale and with select club teams, Hiebert began her career at Dominican University of California in San Rafael, where she played 32 sets in 18 matches, recording 19 kills as a freshman, including five vs. Concordia Irvine. Following this, Sara spent her sophomore and junior seasons at Molloy University in Long Island.
A fixture for the Lions in 2023 and 2024, Hiebert played 68 sets in 21 matches in a breakout season that included 89 kills, 55 total blocks, and 16 digs. She nearly matched her kills total in 2024 with 88, and surpassed herself in blocks with 57, a team leading stat.
For her senior campaign, Sara opted to come to Moscow and join the Vandals, providing valuable depth and veteran experience on both the offensive and defensive aspects of the game. Her father, Paul, a fire management officer for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife, received his degree in Forest Management from UI in 1984, sparking an instant connection for Sara in the transfer portal.
"My family has strong ties to Idaho, so I was thrilled when I started talking to the coaches. My dad was a Vandal and I'm really excited to be a part of the volleyball program," said Hiebert.
