Four Vandals Score as Idaho Shuts Out UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. – Idaho soccer started the week on the Puget Sound and traveled from sea to shining sea to the East coast but felt right at home on the banks of the Merrimack River as four Vandals scored and Paula Flores notched her second shutout of the season to lead Idaho to a 4-0 win over UMass Lowell.

The Vandals dominated possession, and it showed in the stat book. Idaho racked up 19 shots, including 14 on goal, and tallied 11 corner kicks in the match while the River Hawks had just five shots, two on goal and just one corner kick all game.

Idaho notched long stretches that didn't see the ball travel into the defensive half of the field.

The Vandals got on the board in the 10th minute when Karli Yoshida-Williams gathered a rebound a placed a perfect pass for Hallie Prinos-Grumbach at the six-yard box. She sent the ball to the far post for her first career goal, giving Idaho the 1-0 lead.

Neither team scored for the remainder of the first half because of a solid performance by UML goalkeeper Lucie Chumanova, despite the Vandals racking up nine shots before the break.

The relentless pressure was too much in the second half. Annika Farley scored her second goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 55th minute before Idaho added a pair of set piece goals late in the game.

Tori Peters sent a perfect corner kick to the near post finding Sara Rodgers for the header goal in the 65th minute and Mia Boltz copied Peters' playbook for an assist to KV Miller for another near-post header on a corner kick in the 88th minute.

The win moves Idaho to 2-1 on the season and continues the East coast road trip Saturday with a game against Stonehill College in North Easton, Mass., at 3 p.m. pacific.
